The Norris trophy went to Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings. Lidstrom is now 41 years old and has, for years, been considered the best defenseman to have ever played the game. This year's Norris marks Lidstrom's 7th Norris Trophy award in his illustrious career.
Add that on to the fact that Wallin has left the team this offseason and White is still unsigned, and the Sharks have to add on to their defensive prospects for the future.
17. Brad Richards- Richards was the biggest fish in free agency and has been signed by the New York Rangers. If him and Gaborik can both remain healthy, they can each put up a lot of points. Projection: 84 points.
Eliminate inter-conference play. NHL hockey (like any sport) is at its best when strength is high and opponents face off. Nobody cares to see how Pittsburgh fares against Nashville or Columbus. Fans want to see Sid the Kid battle the Capitals as often as possible. Place the Devils and Flyers on screen more than six times every year. The league took steps to increasing intra-conference games a few years ago, now it is time to go all of the way. It will take some time for those rivalries to fully develop. However, as the teams play more often, the animosity will expand and enthusiasts will be treated to more intriguing matchups over the course of a season. The league is not exactly printing money either so the travel savings could provide an added benefit.
The Sharks are stacked with forwards at the NHL level. You can't go wrong with Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley on the ice, unless it's playoff time (low blow).

Even though it seems like an oxymoron I use the term'innocent conspiracy' for a reason. I don't think reffs form Ontario sit down and plan to make bad calls against the Habs. I don't believe for a moment that they have an evil agenda. That is why the conspiracy is innocent. What I do believe is that it's virtually impossible for these reffs to be objective and it shows on the ice. How do they grow up hating the Habs, resenting their success and look at that CH on the crest and be totally objective.
